Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to our FAQ page. The questions are not listed in any particular order or category. Please feel free to contact us with additional comments. We will periodically update this page.

When are Internet orders shipped?
Depending on inventory, internet orders are shipped the same day if placed by 9:00am, EST, on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. We will ship on Thursday, depending on the order and where it's being shipped to.

What is an order ID number?
This important number verifies that your order was placed successfully on line. If you do not receive an order ID number, then try again.

Can you tell me where my package is?
Please use the tracking number that was sent to your email address. If you did not receive one, please email us at sales@grubco.com and we will be glad to provide one for you.

My package was left in the sun all day (or in the mailbox, or in the snow, etc), and when I came home they were all dead. Will you send a replacement?
Unfortunately we will not replace them. We require that someone be at home to receive the package. These are live animals that have to be cared for properly. We can ship to your work address, a friend, relative, etc. if no one will be home. It is your responsibility to make arrangements for prompt receipt of the package.

How will my order be shipped?
All orders are shipped UPS Next Day Air.

The mealworms seem smaller this week. Why?
The size varies weekly due to many factors. All of our mealworms are shipped fresh, never left over from one week to the next or packed days in advance. Some factors affecting size include weather, season, and amount ordered. The mealworms are always graded by size and should be of consistent size for the batch, not necessarily the same size weekly.

Do you have different size waxworms and superworms?
We only offer one size of these two different insects.

How are Mighty Mealys different from Superworms?
Mighty Mealys are mealworms. They are the exact same species as our other mealworms, only bigger. Superworms are the larvae of another species of beetle. They are not mealworms. Our insects are not worms at all. They are all the larvae stage of an insect. Crickets are the only exception, as they are the adult stage.

How do I get the crickets out of the shipping box?
Carefully remove the tape from the box and quickly dump contents into a large plastic garbage bag or can. With the crickets in the bag or can, they cannot jump or crawl out because the sides are too slick. You can then easily pour the crickets into your aquarium or box. You can use the egg flats the crickets are shipped in to give them something to crawl on. This is important. Please provide clean, fresh potatoes, etc for moisture and be sure to keep your container clean. Remember that each week the crickets grow ¼" or more. Keep at 75 to 80F.

How do I store mealworms for a long period?
Put about 2500 or less per container and cover with 2-3" of wheat bran or oat meal. Place in refrigerator for 2-3 weeks. Take out of refrigerator and let them warm to room temperature. Feed one carrot for 24 hours. You can use lettuce, apples or any other vegetable, but we feed carrots at Grubco. Remove the carrot, and place back in refrigerator. Repeat this process every two to three weeks.

Do you have any other products not listed on the website?
Everything we sell is listed on this website.

What are your hours of operation?
We answer the phone from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM EST Monday-Thursday and 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM on Friday. After hours you can contact us by email, or you can place an order on-line.

Why is there a charge from The Bug Company when I placed an order from Grubco?
Grubco is now a division of The Bug Company. The charge for your order will come from The Bug Company, not Grubco.
