Grubco was founded in 1951 as one of the first mail order bait companies in the United States. For 35 years, Grubco raised only fly larvae and mealworms. I purchased Grubco in 1987 from the founder and quickly expanded the product line from fly larvae and mealworms to include waxworms, crickets, and superworms. We now offer other complimentary products that give the customer more options for using and keeping our live insects.
2013 will bring a few exciting changes and some continuing challenges to Grubco. Higher shipping costs remain our biggest challenge. We must continually adjust to increased costs from every supplier. Fuel surcharges and commodity price increases keep us looking for ways to increase productivity and efficiency in order to maintain prices at their current point. Grubco has always embraced new technology. Remember our first HTML website in 1988? We are installing new "Cloud" technology for our telecommunications. It will help us communicate much more efficiently with our customers, suppliers, and employees. We have increased the number of incoming lines and will offer new ways for you to communicate with us after our regular business hours. With expanded hours planned for 2013, it will be easier than ever to do business with Grubco.
Today, Grubco is a leading producer of live insects. Our packaging, shipping, pricing, and other methods of doing business are widely copied. Our nutritional analysis was the first to be published and is still used as the benchmark. Many researchers, rehabilitators, and breeders rely on Grubco to provide them with up to date information. We are pleased to provide that service.
We take pride in doing the extra things to make our customers want to come back to us. No other company provides better service, quality, or guarantee than Grubco. We know. We have seen their products and have tested their service. We also know how we want to be treated and how much we expect excellent service. We settle for nothing less. Thinking back to 1987 and 8000 customers to 2012 and over 100,000 customers, we must have done something right.
