Care Instructions
Mealworms
Mealworms are easy to keep for weeks as they are packed when you receive them. For longer storage, shake the mealworms from the newspaper and place in a plastic tub with wheat bran or oatmeal. Punch holes in the lid, as mealworms require lots of air. Every 2-3 weeks, take the mealworms out of the refrigerator for 24 hours and during that time, put something in with them for moisture, such as carrots or lettuce. After the 24 hours, take what is left of the carrots or lettuce out of the mealworms and put them back in the refrigerator. Repeat this step and mealworms will last several months.
Mighty Mealys
Mighty Mealys can be stored in the refrigerator in the container they come in or can be placed in a plastic tub with wheat bran or oatmeal. Punch holes in the lid, as Mighty Mealys require lots of air. No feeding is necessary.
Superworms
Shake the superworms from the newspaper and place in a plastic tub with wheat bran or oatmeal. Some moisture such as carrots or lettuce is necessary as well. Punch holes in the lid, as superworms require lots of air. Store superworms at room temperature. Do not refrigerate!
Waxworms
Waxworms can be stored in the same container and bedding as they are received in. Waxworms need to be kept at 55-65 degrees. A cool basement is ideal. Keep waxworm bedding dry. No feeding is necessary.
Crickets
If crickets have to be held in their shipping boxes, add plenty of quartered potatoes every other day. Cut a hole in one side of the cricket box and place quartered potatoes between egg flats. Cover hole tightly with tape or cardboard. For longer storage, place cricket chow or mashed up dry dog food in the bottom of a plastic bin. Cut a hole in one side of the cricket box and shake crickets into the bin. Cricket quencher or quartered potatoes is needed for moisture. Cover the bin with screen as crickets require lots of air. Keep crickets at room temperature.
Fly Larvae
Keep fly larvae covered (nearly air tight) and near freezing (33-36 degrees). Fly larvae can be stored for 3-4 weeks. When packaging fly larvae for re-sale, it is important to punch only 1-2 pin holes in the lids.
You must notify us within 24 hours after delivery to report any dead loss.
